Sweetwater Marsh Cleanup Photos !

Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

The Sweetwater Marsh Cleanup and Summer Celebration in conjunction with Operation Clean Sweep on Saturday August 24th was a complete success! Volunteers from all over San Diego County as well as local South Bay residents and students worked hard under the blazing sun and managed to collect over 39.000 lbs of trash from our marsh and bay shore.

Oceanforce Foundation organized the Sweetwater Marsh Cleanup and Summer Celebration in conjunction with the San Diego Port Tenants Association, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Unified Port of San Diego, the City of Chula Vista and the South Bay Sea Scouts Ship 2013.

We want to give a big shout out to each and everyone of the volunteers that came and worked so hard. Together we create a healthier South Bay and Sweetwater Marsh for the local wildlife and all of us! A special mention to our photographer Federico Dell’ Avo for coverting the event.

We also want to give BIG THANKS to all of our event sponsors: Patagonia, IronX cameras, Home Depot Foundation, West Marine, Republic Services, Chula Vista Marina, Deep Yoga, MOAA and Unlimited Electro.

Third Sweetwater Marsh Cleanup and Summer Celebration!

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

Save the date San Diego friends, join us on Saturday August 24th, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for another cleanup of the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.

Some of you might have joined us for past clean up efforts at the Sweetwater Marsh and while those efforts were not in vain, the reality of the current situation is that continuous community support is needed to maintain and protect the Sweetwater Marsh.

For all of our new friends, the Sweetwater Marsh is located at the end of the San Diego Bay. It is the LAST remaining salt water marsh in the whole San Diego Bayshore. Yes, you read correctly, it is the LAST!

Volunteers will meet at the Bayside Park in Chula Vista. Click here to see the map.  There will be signs with green balloons posted all along the Bayside on J Street. So please follow the green balloons to the sign in table.  We will be cleaning from the F Street Marsh to the Bayside Park Pier.

Make sure to stick around after the cleanup for the festivities. Celebration will follow at Bayside Park.

Celebration activities include:
– Donation based Deep Yoga Ganga Flow Class.

– Donation based Kids Yoga Class with Alex Mares of Sana Sana Yoga for Kids

– Free BBQ lunch and live music courtesy of the San Diego Port Tenants Association

-Kids arts and crafts

This event is hosted in collaboration with the City of Chula Vista, San Diego Port Tenants Association, South Bay Sea Scouts, Deep Ganga Yoga Flow, Sana Sana Yoga, Patagonia, West Marine, and YOU!

Our collective mission is clear; we are obliged to leave the world in better condition than she is currently.  We are our rivers, lakes, marshes and oceans.

We hope you will join us :)
